What is e-SCARF?

e-SCARF is the electronic version of SCARF (Supporting Children And Responding to Families), a case management system for child and family services.
Just like SCARF, e-SCARF aims to meet individual child needs. It strengthens families and connects families to communities. It provides transparent casework processes that are both accountable and standardized. It is very inclusive of families.

Are the principles of e-SCARF the same as SCARF?

Yes. Casework principles and practice promoted are the same for both e-SCARF and SCARF. e-SCARF however is able to guide practice better by providing more prompts useful to workers and defining essential information known as ‘mandatory fields’. For example, the important principles of Client Participation and Transparency are supported by e-SCARF’s requirements for closing records.

How does it work?

e-SCARF provides case management tools in an electronic format that systematically guides workers from initial contact with client, to closure of work. The information gathered aims to identify areas of difficulty and sets up streamlined planning processes for how needs are to be met. Review of plans is made easier by the quick identification of and access to current information.
By inputting the information electronically, client files automatically convert case notes to statistical data. This auto population of key information actively reduces case workload by allowing information to be moved between referral, assessment, planning and review. Information is easy to find, easy to read and easy to track. More importantly, duplication and repetition is kept to a minimum.

Better reporting

e-SCARF streamlines reporting by offering information at a glance. No more agonizing over
monthly or annual report requirements. Information is readily accessible for funding body
reporting or client case reports.
Reporting enhances better management of case workload and assists in planning for
Program Managers and the agency as a whole.

The big picture

e-SCARF also enables users to participate in collaborative research projects and enhances evidenced based work practices.
With widespread use of e-SCARF, Family Support in Australia and New Zealand will be able to contribute significantly to global research to improve the lives of children.
